Company-owned equipment, tools, and vehicles — purchase, warranty, depreciation, service history, and who currently has it checked out.
New Asset on the Assets grid — the only required field is Asset Desc. The edit form has four panels: Asset (description, bar code, model/serial number, category, location, an optional linked Property, notes), Purchase & Tracking (purchase date/price/source, warranty days, year, color, status), Ownership & Checkout (manufacturer, vendor, a "Container Asset" for nesting one asset inside another, and who currently has it checked out), and a collapsed Financial Details panel (depreciation method, useful life, Section 179 bonus, disposal info).
Two checkboxes — "Track As Vehicle" and "Track As Equipment" — decide whether the Mileage tab and vehicle-specific fields actually matter for this particular Asset.
Check Out Project and Check Out User track who currently holds a piece of equipment — useful for anything that moves between job sites or staff.
Container Asset lets you nest one Asset inside another — e.g. a set of hand tools stored inside a specific truck.
An Asset is equipment your company owns; a Property (see the Properties guide) is a physical address. By default an Asset is just "a company asset" with no Property link at all — but you can optionally tie one to a Property when it's actually installed customer equipment (the form's own example: an HVAC unit installed at a client's address).
